Cody sighed. “I didn’t think it would be right to get involved with anyone. To be

honest, being gay I thought I wouldn’t get a mate. I hoped, of course, but I didn‘t think there was any chance. I guess I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to fully commit and that wouldn’t be fair to the person I was with.”

“As selfish as it might sound, I’m glad. Although I certainly would have, I wouldn’t have wanted to have to fight for you, and I definitely couldn’t share you.”

Cody smiled to himself. Those had been his sentiments exactly. Stefan snuggled more closely behind him.
